On an elusive beach in Skye sits these blemished rocks. The waves, sand and seagulls leave their traces, the cracks , barnacles, mosses and faeces accumulates, and form paintings of their own, as if the strokes and marks made over time by a patient painter. Old sediments get removed, new marks are added.The cuts being polished, the blemishes forming patterns, with time, these scars will age into meaningful birthmarks.
Mottled (Souvenir) / Lin Shiau-yu
- Lin Shiauyu (b. 1995, Shanghai) is an interdisciplinary image maker working with both painting and photography. Using image-making as a form of inquiry and navigation, her works delve into human conditions such as womanhood, identity, and mental wellness. Shiauyu graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Digital Imaging at the Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media.
