Planner (2061) is an artist book by Catherine Hu that explores the future in a more tangible way. The book is a planner for the year 2061, which is 39 years after its publication. Hu chose 2061 as a middle-future year that is far enough away that it is not abstract, but close enough that it is still within her lifetime. It also happens to be the year that Halley's Comet will be visible from Earth again. This planner presents itself as a time capsule, a book that is only usable 39 years from its publication. The planner is a work of art, a piece of history, and a gift to the future.

Catherine Hu works primarily in sculpture and print media. Her works tend to behave like puns, pulling multiple meanings together in one form. They are objects that are difficult to place, that attempt to reconcile the ideas of our environment both as something that precedes us, and as something that is perpetually being made.

Designer Info
Azelia Ng is a (graphic) designer based in Singapore. She studied at London College of Communication (BA Hons Graphic and Media Design, 2018) and at Temasek Polytechnic, School of Design (Diploma in Visual Communication, 2015) and since Feb 2019 has been a member of DesignSingapore Associate Network (DAN). While working primarily in the field of graphic design, she isn’t defined by it and expresses her expanded vocation as being print in nature and experimental in character. During which, she researches the book as an investigation—making books and artists books—which she sells and distributes through The Other Workroom.

About A Different Reading
A Different Reading is a project by THEBOOKSHOW that attempts to open up new dialogues and synergies between young creatives of varied background, training and knowledge through the process of creating a new artist book. Bringing together 5 young artists and 4 young designers, under the mentorship of Hanson Ho of H55 and artist Ang Song Nian, each artist-designer pair produces a new art book that was launched at the Singapore Art Book Fair 2022.
