笔迹 script/ notes looks at 17 years worth of hand-copied and hand-annotated scores from artist, Hong Shu-ying’s collection. Through observing and re-presenting these markings, she considers the way language and customs are developed in social groups and how it borrows and evolves from existing and adjacent communities.

Hong Shu-ying engages in process-led projects to clarify and negotiate how vocabularies and customs act as a shorthand for communities that she belongs to. She is fascinated by the creative potential of familiarity, both as a narrative tool and source of enquiry. Informed by her lived experiences and growing up in Singapore, she is a keen observer of the traces people leave on and for each other.
Designer Info
Mingli is a practicing designer who is passionate about print, writing, and photography. She has designed several published books and takes interest in dialogues and documentations of people, things, thoughts, and the heart of life at large.
About A Different Reading
A Different Reading is a project by THEBOOKSHOW that attempts to open up new dialogues and synergies between young creatives of varied background, training and knowledge through the process of creating a new artist book. Bringing together 5 young artists and 4 young designers, under the mentorship of Hanson Ho of H55 and artist Ang Song Nian, each artist-designer pair produces a new art book that was launched at the Singapore Art Book Fair 2022.
